HMD/Permissions

PLAYER

NAME: Holo
CONTACT: [plurk.com profile] hologramblue or PM this journal

ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: Player EST, god only knows what hours. My RP attention tends to be very narrow and intense, either a lot of tags going out at once or dedicated tagging on 2-3 core threads for days/weeks. My tagback time can also be anywhere from immediate to several hours or days depending on Factors and Circumstances.

BRACKETS/PROSE: I write in brackets, can thread against anything

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: No blanket subjects for me but if something becomes unfun I'll say so.

OPT-OUT/HEADS-UP: Gladion's backstory has a lot to do with an emotionally abusive parent, and the subject is likely to come up now and then in threads with him, especially in long-term CR.

He's particularly prone to self-talk blaming himself or taking on an inappropriate amount of responsibility for his mother's feelings and actions, and to minimizing his own feelings/needs/experiences in the name of "being an adult" about it and forgiving her and/or focusing on the needs of her other victims.

Another thing that comes up fairly frequently in narration is...emotional hypervigilance, I guess? And reflections on feeling/having felt surveilled, unsafe, on-call, pressured, needing to hide, etc in one's own home, and behavior patterns that come from that.

If this is a subject you don't want to get into in too much detail, or at all, let me know (comments to this post are good). I can steer IC situations away from the subject as much as possible, or I can just avoid lingering on it or describing associated memories and feelings in narration, or I can touch base if a thread veers that way - up to you.

How's my driving?

If I'm making RP life hard for you, let me know so I can correct course. Comments to this post are public. If you want a more private avenue of contact, my inbox or Plurk DMs are open.

IC PERMISSIONS

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: He's 15ish and thinks he's too cool for hugs and is easily embarrassed, also he may be uncomfortable if there's anything maternal about the vibe of it, do as is IC but he might be rude, idk. See the triggers section below.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Generally yeah, obvs give me a shout if debilitating injury is a possibility.

RELATIONSHIPS: I'm not actively interested in Pursuing Ships For Ships Sake but I'm fine with playing teenagers catching feelings and having social circle drama about it and so on. What happens happens.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: First an ambient background thing: as a Pokemon native, he takes animal abuse really seriously and will not be nice to people who are not nice to animals (fighting them for practical reasons is normal and not an issue ofc).

And the major thing: Gladion's mother was very emotionally abusive (and had world-ruining villain schemes), and he distrusts and dislikes people who remind him of her for any reason. She herself had a saccharine, overly-doting manner and was preoccupied with her own appearance (physical and social) and those of her children and anyone/anything else that she felt reflected back upon herself; she was also very sensitive to perceived rejection or abandonment and fixated on people's loyalty to her. If Gladion sees these traits in a person, he will probably be slow to build trust in that CR, even slower to actually like or be comfortable around that person, and may just kind of flip out at them disproportionately to what they actually did/said to him, depending on the exact circumstances.

OOC PERMISSIONS

BACKTAGGING: Generally yeah, but in a game, unless the thread is really really grabbing me I usually max out at a month. This is about having a hard time going back to the character mindset in that point in time if something significant has happened since, so I'm more likely to backtag for longer if my character's CR/recent activity is more static, and less likely if they've had a bunch of shit happen in their life recently. I will try to be upfront about the state of things. You can at any time ask me how I'm feeling about an older thread, or ask to pick one back up - if I know the other player is actively interested in it, I'll make an effort. (Likewise, if you just need to know what might have happened in an 'unfinished' old thread, you can hit me up to talk it out anytime.)

THREADHOPPING: Jump right on in if it's a public network thread or mingle log or other situation where it makes sense to do so. Ask first if the thread is taking place in a more private location.

FOURTHWALLING: I don't want to play out the "wow Pokemon are fictional in another world?!" thing. If you have a modern character who absolutely ought to know what Pokemon are, I'm fine with them bringing that into CR or talking to other characters about it or w/e as long as you can minimize the chances of a conversation turning into that.

NOT INTERESTED IN: See above.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Refer first to Monster Information. This section is basic canon human form info.

Picture here. (Gameverse picture with color here.) His height is...somewhere around 5 feet? Silvally is apparently 7'7" with the crest but perspective and poses are a bitch, you be the judge. Gladion is a kind of scrawny-looking young teenager. If you're looking for them, you might find little faded scars on his hands and perhaps face or forearms, signs that whatever life he leads involves getting minorly scuffed up on a regular basis. His ears are not actually pierced, those are clip-ons.

PHYSICALITY/DEMEANOUR: Gladion gives off an impression of being low-key alert and attentive almost all the time; he glances around himself a lot, speaks deliberately and is quiet when he's not talking, and his movement usually seems deliberate or at least subtle/constrained, not wasted on fidgeting or big gestures.

This alertness shows up both in social contexts (watching people, being deliberate in his reactions) and in a purely physical one (passively noticing details about the physical environment, staying ready to jump into action if something feels off about his surroundings). He maintains a generous personal space bubble unless a combat situation or something similar demands otherwise.

Deliberate movement and speech doesn't mean non-dramatic. Gladion is...kind of dramatic. Sometimes his alertness comes off as genuine poise, but sometimes it comes off as the behavior of someone who has a whole narrative in their head about the dramatic timing of what they're doing and saying. Sometimes. The poise that is sometimes visible through the drama is a "science-y" vibe, as has been said in canon; he grew up around researchers and lab technicians of various kinds, and approaches problems with an experimental mix of curiosity and caution.

He also, paradoxically, kind of wears his heart on his sleeve; he might not "waste movement" crossing his arms or gesturing on instinct, but his "control" doesn't extend to effectively hiding when he's annoyed or angry or interested or content. It's pretty damn obvious, in fact, when he's affected by something and trying to Play Cool, even if he can keep wraps on exactly why.

VOICE: This is Gladion's VA in Pokemon Masters. It makes me laugh a lot. I imagine him as trying to sound like this, but not quite succeeding because 1) he's a 15yo, instead of an adult VA playing a 15yo 2) he might sound like this at peak composure but if he is flustered he cannot be this "cool".
