Short for "application". Newer term for a piece of software on a personal computer that you use to do something specific like make documents or play a game or run a camera. As opposed to the software that runs in the background to make the computer work, or the software in a purpose-built machine like an arcade cabinet.

Apparently there are two models of the laptop floating around and one is more archaic.

This is all several decades out of date for me so I might have the history wrong but I'm pretty sure it's weird that laptops were invented here without a lot of other computer technology already existing. Whenever I spot something it usually ends up being courtesy of Mana. No personal computers where you're from? In offices or libraries or anything?

no theres ones way bigger than this in places like that mostly libraries
i think the school has one or two
but theyre mostly for work
some people have them for games but not a lot where im from

It's not that the internet made everyone more straightforward and more that you see more arguments online because it's easier to start something when it's not right to someone's face. But it's also different because the internet here is maybe 200 people maximum? and the real internet is several hundred million minimum. You don't see everything, just what gets the most attention.

i gotta say everything ive seen and heard of the internet does not paint a very pretty picture

I mean the internet isn't just message boards. It's also completely changed global communications and made it easier to look up information on just about anything. You can shop online too.

But yeah that's why I'm not much of a poster myself.
